How many photos do you actually need

Why a curated set of forty beats a dump of four hundred.

How many photos do you actually need

Clients often judge a photography package by the number of images. It is an understandable instinct and it is almost always the wrong measure.

What a raw count really means

A three hour shoot might produce eight hundred frames. Most of those are duplicates within a burst, blinks, transitions between poses and setups that did not work. Handing over eight hundred files is not generosity, it is passing the hard work to you.

The number that matters is usable frames

A usable frame is one you would genuinely put on your website or your feed. In a good session, that is a fraction of what was shot, and it is the fraction I am paid to identify.

“Anyone can hand you four hundred photos. Knowing which forty are worth having is the actual craft.”

What different needs require

  • A website refresh, around fifteen to twenty five strong images covering hero, about, services and contact
  • A quarter of social content, forty to sixty varied frames plus video
  • A team about page, two to three finished frames per person
  • An ecommerce range, four to six per product across clean and lifestyle
  • A personal branding library, thirty to fifty across several looks

Variety beats quantity

Thirty images across five distinctly different setups are worth far more than one hundred and fifty from one setup. Variety is what lets you post for months without your audience noticing a pattern.

On the raw files question

Raw files are unfinished. They are flat, uncorrected and not representative of the work. The editing and grading is a substantial part of what makes a set look like one cohesive body of work rather than a pile of photos, which is why delivery is finished images.

How I approach delivery

I cull hard, edit and grade the survivors to one consistent look, then deliver in the sizes and crops you told me you needed. Seven to ten days. What arrives is a set you can use immediately without a single decision left to make.
